5 Series To Watch This Weekend

It’s the weekend ladies, we are all set with our munchies to take a break from work and need to binge-watch something. The big question – what to watch?

The one difficulty we all face is that there are far too many shows and not enough time to surf and select just the one without having FOMO.

The good news is I have compiled all the best series to watch out for (according to me, of course) – so there’ll be no aimless scrolling through Netflix tonight!

The Bold Type

The Bold Type is realistic and relatable, and its beat is the clickity-clack of the heels worn by Jane Sloan, Kat Edison, and Sutton Brady as they navigate 20-something life and ambition, arm in arm.

Another reason I binged watch this show was that it builds a language to express several important conversations, from sexual assault, feminism, breast cancer, and racism, to sexual orientation and identity, to name just a few.

It’s a must-watch for independent women who are carving out their identities with their bold choices like us and if anyone says otherwise (as the protagonist says) – “Unleash holy hell on anybody who tries to hold you back.”

The Crown

The Crown is the fictional retelling of the life of Queen Elizabeth II, portraying British royalty at its best and the worst.

The show deals with the weight of the royal crown in a compelling manner. The mere contrast of the royal’s grandiose, out-of-touch existence with the reality of the situation surrounding them, makes it a delight to watch. The gossip is richer, the writing smarter, the history more fascinating and the characters more absorbing than anything you could imagine.

And did I mention it’s one of Netflix’s most expensive shows?

Schitt’s Creek

Hilarious, witty, and oh-so-sweet, Schitt’s Creek, winner of all 7 comedy awards at the 2020 Emmys and the best television series at The Golden Globes, is the perfect show for when you need a pick-me-up.

It’s very interesting and comical to watch the Roses family, who live in a run-down motel, meet all sorts of quirky characters while they try to navigate their new, modest lives compared to their wealthy past. Not to mention, fashion is pretty much a character of its own on this show.

This show is hilarious yet heart-warming. It will make you laugh out loud one minute, and misty-eyed in another.

Bridgerton

If Gossip Girl meets Downton Abbey meets Pride and Prejudice sounds intriguing to you, then Netflix original series Bridgerton will absolutely be your jam.

Shonda Rhimes’ new scandalous drama follows the stories of the high society men and women, complete with balls and gowns and decorum, along with the occasional duel. I’m kind of obsessed with the music too, as both Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank you, next’ & Billie Eilish’s ‘Bad Girl’ feature on string quartets. Definitely a vibe.

Incredibly bingeable and shockingly entertaining, the show is based on a series of novels by Julia Quinn with each one focusing on a different Bridgerton sibling. A must watch!

Suits

If your thing is smart, stylish TV with an array of extraordinarily well-dressed, good-looking actors, Suits is for you.

All the characters of the show are smart, powerful, and complex. They also have flaws, quirks, and vulnerabilities that make them feel real, interesting, and relatable.

This swaggering, walk-and-talk drama set in a New York law firm is full of backstabbing, power plays and witty comebacks that will have you glued to the screen.

What makes these my top picks is the freshness of the plots. These are not your unusual sitcoms and they bring a very subtle yet prominent flavour to the palette. If that is what you’re looking for your binge-watching session, trust me, you will not be able to stop watching!
